Klappentext
Two rulers. Two lions. One hidden order.
Ancient Egypt, at the height of the Eighteenth Dynasty. Hatshepsut rises to become one of the most extraordinary rulers of her age, while the young Thutmose III grows up in the shadow of a throne that is already his - and yet not entirely his to command.
Guided by the High Priest Hapu-Seneb, the young king enters a world in which temples are more than monuments, numbers may carry meaning, and ancient reliefs seem to preserve knowledge whose origins have long been forgotten. At the heart of his search stands a mysterious image: two lions facing opposite directions, guardians of a hidden order between past and future, chaos and balance, the human and the divine.
As Hatshepsut leads Egypt towards prosperity and Thutmose III gradually discovers his own path as priest, warrior and king, their intertwined destinies unfold against a world of sacred rituals, distant expeditions, political intrigue and war. Yet behind the visible struggle for Egypt's future lies another conflict - one concerning knowledge itself and the question of who has the right to preserve, reveal or conceal it.
Inspired by historical events, ancient Egyptian mythology and the author's own investigations into the symbolism, geometry and proportions of Egyptian relief art, The Guardians of Ma'at weaves history and fiction into a journey through one of the most fascinating periods of ancient Egypt.
It is a story of power and loss, initiation and discovery - and of a king who must learn that the greatest task of a ruler may not be to conquer other lands, but to find the balance within himself.
For between the lions lies more than a throne. There lies the path to Ma'at.
